deja vu or something

With the introduction of the iPad today from Apple I was reminded of the crunchpad a.k.a. the JooJoo. I'm starting to think that the slate from HP might actually be more useful.

DVD disappointment

So I'm not talking about the kind of disappointment that comes from purchasing or renting a DVD and realizing that you just gave 2 hours of your life away... I'm talking about when you really like a series of shows you're watching and you realize on the final set of discs to your collection that you are missing several episodes because of a manufacturing error.

Guitar Hero

So lately I've been getting away from work for a few hours and learning to play guitar. I had always admired those who could play, and wanted to learn. When I was in high school my family did not have the budget for a guitar, even a cheap one, but a friend of mine lent me his Fender and his amp for a few days to try out. I really enjoyed it, and even learned to play a few chords. But since I didn't have a guitar of my own and my family didn't have the budget for one I never got into playing.

Yawn... more datacenter stuff... yawn

This article about Google'sdatacenter isn't really new. The article is new, but the concepts aren't. This may be interesting for those of you who have never worked in a large environment, or have never had to fight for power/cooling at a datacenter with the likes of Yahoo or Google. Basically it explains how Google crams servers into containers and uses custom servers.

Turn up the heat

So I think this is what my friend Oz was referring to when he told me about the new data center he was building. He does some really interesting stuff. Last time I spoke with him he claimed to be in the midst of designing a data center with no mechanical cooling. I bet these new rackable C2 units would do nicely in an unmanned facility like that.

I feel much better now...

Again those of you "in the know" will get it...

Shhhh - I can't hear myself think

Don't you just hate people who strike up long running conversations about nothing in the name of making the time pass? No. Well, I'm not a fan. I'm really not interested in the fact that the woman 3 rows away from me lives in a "cool old house from the civil war" and likes "current music" or "meets famous people at bible study". Please, I don't want to hear about your personal ailments, I don't want to hear you try and pickup some guy half your age, I don't want to hear about your family.

Some people just don't get it

I've got nothing... I can't even come up with a smart ass remark...

Time for an update

It's been a long time since I have made an update, but I feel compelled to stop being lazy about updating my blog and share the following with all of you. My friend Harry blogged quite an interesting piece yesterday, and I thought it deserved some attention. Oh, and speaking of Harry, I just realized I'm two steps from Kevin Bacon on LinkedIn through Harry... That really made me laugh, because when Harry and I worked together we would play the Kevin Bacon game. And speaking of LinkedIn, I also found I'm two steps from Barack Obama and three steps from John McCain too... I guess I inadvertently know a lot of interesting people.

I've been busy

Those of you in the "know" will get it.
