When you're going to move something heavy, like say a SpectraLogic T120 tape library, you should do some proper planning. However life as a Systems Engineer isn't convenient enough that I would have the luxury of time to plan. So I embarked on the task of unracking the tape library, and arranging for it to be shipped by myself. So what does an engineer do when tasked with a "get 'er done" project and no resources? Yep, you guessed it, do a half ass hack to make it work. Yes, I called a car service, ordered a mini-van put it in the back and went off to the data center with no padding (Not even moving blankets). And even though my partner could not lift the library with me, I somehow managed to get it onto the van, over to the data center, off the van and into our cage in one piece. And it works too. :)
Ok, now for other stuff... Why are chocolate doughnuts making my son vomit again today? Maybe it's not the doughnuts, but the sign I saw in his school about rotavirus... Schools are like incubation facilities for incurable diseases. Apparently they sent one kid home who had lice too. Luckily my son wears his hair high and tight. Whenever I hear the word lice I get itchy. Why is that? I'm still scratching.
