R2D2

A friend of mine sent this over. Apparently it's a bit old, but I've never seen it before. I guess I don't have that much free time and money ($2900.00). I do like the way that you can tell the RDD2 projector to walk around your couch and project your XBOX on the ceiling.

All your UNIX interview questions are belong to us

So this is why it's hard to do phone screens today. What can you ask when all of the answers are out there already? Having all of these questions available to candidates makes finding someone with a clue more difficult. When you're doing the initial phone screen the candidate has probably been memorizing the answers to the basics, and you can't figure out if he/she's a superstar or not until he/she shows up for a face to face interview.

Here are some questions I like to use to help with this problem:

Downtime

If you've ever worked in IT in any form you will appreciate the following link: The website is down: Sales guy vs. Web dude

I have to give my man arae a shout out for finding that gem. Oh and while I'm pimping people's sites, go visit my friend Morgan who just got a new puppy.

Programming question of the day...

So I was posed with the question of how to return an array reference in Perl using split on only one line. Here's how I solved it. The trick is to use square brackets on split.

Turn left

It pains me to read articles like this one. I love technology, but sometimes we need to separate ourselves from it. Web surfing while driving is a really scary thought. I should know.

Where have all the geniuses gone?

Last night I watched what is basically a horrible movie about Nikola Tesla. It's a VHS transfer to DVD that is so horrible it even rewinds for 30 seconds during the movie, then continues to play. However, I loved it. Here's why. When watching the movie, I quickly remembered all of the things that Nikola invented and worked on.

Site enhancements

A bunch of you wanted to comment on posts or create content, so I've gone ahead and re-enabled the user login feature. Originally I had it turned off so I didn't have to deal with spam bots and content/comment moderation. But I figured what the hell I'll try my hand at 'retard wrangling' if necessary.

Oh, I created a new poll to get your opinion on that too... on the bottom right hand side.

Slow news day

I was just surfing slashdot when I saw this article about Microsoft. What caught my eye was the following quote from the article by Mitch Kapor:
"Claims by Microsoft that people were buying the software because it was good are pretty self-serving," he says.
"I'd like to smoke what he was smoking."

Skynet

Have you seen the video for the big dog robot? That is totally awesome. It gives me hope that someday we'll be able to emulate real muscle movements and help those who are disabled. It also gives me the creeps and makes me think of The Terminator at the same time. Have you noticed all the news lately about UAVs and machine gun toting robot tanks?

Not so new movies

In my best Jerry Seinfeld voice...What's the deal with Neflix? I really do love Neflix. It's totally awesome. I rent a bunch of movies, I get distracted, I watch them a month later, and no late fees. Plus the movies show up at my door really quickly. I love it. The website is good and all AJAXified with Web 2.0 goodness, and I really like the "Watch Instantly" feature as well as the recommendations and the ratings system.
